The 26th March is our Independence Day. On this day Bangladesh emerged as a newly born country on the world map. It is the Day on which we declared our freedom from Pakistani domination and fought a struggle of nine month for crucial victor. On this day Bangladesh began struggle alone against Pakistani occupation army for her existence. The day is remarkable day in the history of Bangladesh. We get much inspiration from this day and celebrate it with much pomp and grandeur.
The political history of Bangladesh is a sad story. the sun of our independence set on 23td June in 1757 near Palasy and we saw 200 years slavery for the nation. We separated from the British in 1947 but the Pakistanis ruled us with iron hands. They exploited us in all respects. They wanted to stop our mouth with arms and the rules set their army stop us forever from any kind of protest against their misruling. the Pakistani rulers ruled us about twenty four years with iron hands. They oppressed and suppressed us all sectors. We were deprived in government service and development programmes. We were treated as second class citizens in the Pakistani regime. As a consequence, agitation began to grow from the first hour of Pakistani ruling. Bangladeshis became excited and strongly protested against the Pakistan rulers. They betrayed in all sides of the Pakistani rule.
On March 25th 1971, the Pakistani army started a complete massacre at the dead of night. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman organized the nation and called upon the people to fight against Pakistani soldiers. Major Ziaur Rahman declared our independence in the air on 27 March 1971 from Kalurghat betar on behalf of Sheik Mojibur Rahman. The whole world knew the world. The nation fought against them and we got our freedom from the Pakistani clutch. The day on which, we declared our independence is known as our Independence Day.
The day is observed with great magnanimity. various organizations have their own programmes. Radio and Television broadcast special programmes. the day is observed with state honour.
